He said, “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37–38). It says the last day of the feast, and this refers to the Feast of Tabernacles. The people of Israel have three great feasts. There are the Passover, the Feast of Harvest, and the Feast of Tabernacles. The Passover is the feast kept in the days of the Old Testament to commemorate that Jesus would become the sacrificial Lamb and, by sacrificing Himself, make mankind pass over from death; the Feast of Harvest is the feast kept to give thanks and commemorate that they had harvested wheat and barley and come to eat them; and the Feast of Tabernacles is the feast corresponding to Thanksgiving. It is the feast kept to give thanks that the Lord had worked and given them much food and produce throughout the year. Also, the Feast of Tabernacles is the feast kept for a week from the fifteenth day of the seventh month in order to recall that the people of Israel lived in the wilderness for forty years, and to commemorate that they built booths and dwelt in them in the wilderness. It is a great feast for the people of Israel. Among the feasts kept by the church in the days of the New Testament there is Thanksgiving, and it is the same as the Feast of Tabernacles.
