Both parables show the love of God, who does not take one soul lightly. When a sheep loses its way, the shepherd does not leave it as it is but goes out to look for it. In Matthew, through the search for the lost sheep, it says, “It is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” God does not despise even one person who seems small and insignificant, and He does not want him to perish.
